Postpartum Checklist

Not sure what supplies you will need for those newly postpartum days? Here is a list of postpartum essentials that will be a game changer when you are dealing with leaking boobs, a healing body, and the tiniest amount of sleep you have ever experienced! Don’t worry, the sweetest newborn snuggles make it all worth it!

The list below is everything you will need on your bedside table / nightstand or in a little basket next to your toilet for easy access!

Bedside Table Essentials

Lip balm will help with your lips from becoming dry when breastfeeding or pumping!

A water bottle is SO essential during your postpartum period, especially if you are breastfeeding or pumping! There is so much fluid loss during this time, so drinking water and coconut water will help you stay hydrated! The Stanley Cup is one of my favorite hydration cups because it keeps water cold for long periods of time as well as holds a large amount of water!

Reusable or disposable nursing pads will help contain milk leakage and keep you feeling comfortable and dry!

A comfy blanket will help you relax while nursing, feeding, or snuggling up with your little one! Comfort is key! Barefoot Dreams has the softest blankets that even your little one will love!

Silverette nipple cups are truly breastfeeding lifesavers!!! If you have a sore nipple, milk bleb, cracked nipple, or even a bleeding nipple, these, combined with a small amount of breastmilk inside the cup, will heal your nipple within a day!

Motherlove and Earth Mama nipple cream were so helpful during the first few months of breastfeeding! They help keep your nipples from cracking and bleeding, therefore decrease your risk for infection!

Investing in a nursing + pumping bra will help support your breasts while also making breastfeeding or  pumping so much easier! Kindred Bravely or Auden have really great options!

A breastmilk collector, or manual pump, will be necessary in the beginning postpartum months when your milk supply is regulating. You can place the milk catcher or manual pump on the breast you are not nursing on, and it will catch the leaking milk for you to freeze and use later!

If you are exclusively pumping, a mini size cooler to put your freshly pumped milk in will save a lot of energy and sleep time. You will not have to make trips back and forth into the kitchen during the middle of the night!

Breast Milk Storage Bags will be helpful to have on your bedside table if you are exclusively pumping or catching breastmilk on your opposite breast while nursing on the other! You can place the fresh milk in the storage bag and place it in the mini cooler.

If you are formula feeding, the Tommee Tippee Portable Baby Bottle Warmer has thermal insulation and is stainless steel, making it an awesome resource for keeping bottles warm!

Dr. Green Mom postnatal supplements will help with gaining back vital minerals that were lost in the labor and postpartum process! These are all clean + natural products! It is probably best to put these in your medicine cabinet, but put a reminder in your phone to take these daily!

Bathroom Basket Essentials

The Frida Mom Postpartum Kit is so helpful to have in your bathroom because it contains so many necessary items all in one box!

Cooling pads or Ice Maxi Pads will help decrease inflammation and increase pain relief in your tender area. Frida Mom is also a great option for the ice pads!

Perineal wipes will be much softer and gentler to wipe with than toilet paper, so I would stock up on these! Combining these with a perineal spray will help with pain relief.

If you are having a hospital birth, a peri bottle will be given to you! If you are having an out of hospital birth or are wanting to purchase a peri bottle on your own, the Frida mom upside down peri bottle is a great option!

Postpartum Diapers and Underwear will help keep the pads + ice pack secure while also keeping you feeling dry and comfortable. The Always Descreet postpartum underwear are soft and durable! These are good to use in the beginning when bleeding is heavier.

A warm bath will help your body mentally and physically relax! Adding an herbal sitz remedy to your bath will help heal your tender area!  Earth Mama has an incredible organic herbal sitz bath that will help with healing!

Postpartum Help

Postpartum is such an important time for healing and bonding, so please allow time for rest and help. Your body has endured so much mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Let others, such as your husband, family, doula, neighbors, and friends cook and clean for you. Remember that resting in bed is ESSENTIAL for healing. Eating warm, protein filled broth meals help balance mineral levels. Standing up slowly and taking your time moving will help your abdomen. Pelvic floor therapy and breath work will help heal your pelvic floor and abdominal muscles which have just undergone so much strain. You are so incredible mama! I pray this is such a beautiful time where you feel loved, seen, secure, and taken care of.
